Remember the locally made Innocent Chocolate I purchased awhile back?
I finally remembered it during a recent chocolate craving and opened it up. I paid $4 for the tiny package. Inside were two individually wrapped ½-inch by 2-inch pieces of mint chocolate. Here’s one $2 piece.
And here’s the piece with the end bitten off.
Doesn’t it look awesome? It was not! It tasted bad, like off and rancid. I can’t understand why. The ingredients are coconut oil, agave syrup, cocoa powder, soy lecithin, banana, almonds, mint oil, and love. Maybe they left the love out of my package.
Have you tried Oohmega Bars?
They are vegan, gluten free, organic, and all natural. I got cherry pie flavor. I haven’t tried it yet, but it too is made with love so I’m a little skeptical. (Is love the trendy new ingredient?)
I’m sorry (not really) to tease you with another of Ricki’s test recipes, but how fabulous do these fruity rice krispie treats look!!!!
They are dangerously good, so Chase got to take home a big batch. He says they are amazing.

ReplyDeleteI can think of nothing sadder than chocolate that doesn't taste good!! All that anticipation and then. . . letdown. Sorry you were disappointed! You can share mine (I got some amazing chocolates in the mail--just posted about them) vicariously. :)

ReplyDeleteHow sad that you paid that much for rancid tasting chocolate. I think I would email them right away.. and those tester bars look like red light foods to me too. :o)
ReplyDeleteMan, what a rip off! Even if it had tasted good... I've had some pretty bad experiences with raw products as well, so I tend to steer clear these days.

ReplyDeleteHow ironic that I read this post today, after coming DANGEROUSLY close to buying one of those Innocent chocolate bars just yesterday! I had it in my hand, but then something-- fate?-- made me put it back and get some Endangered Species' bars instead.

ReplyDeleteDude, Chase is so spoiled! Scene from xmas two years ago: my mom: "Gawky (that's me), have some of this fudge, it's VEGAN!, but you'll never guess the secret ingredient". Turns out the secret ingredient was VELVEETA CHEESE. Apparently people love it, unless you tell them the secret ingredient.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think technically anything made in a factory by machines is not "made with love". Made with love to me means people put their hands in it! but that's just me.

I tried the Innocence chocolate a year or so ago, because everyone was raving about the natural ingredients, the agave, the vegan-friendliness and how it was locally produced, etc., etc., and but it was horrible! The banana was way too intense and gave it a weird sticky texture that put me off right away, plus it had that awful graininess. It always saddens me when I don't like something like this because it's trying so hard, but falls so short.
