VeganMoFo - Shopping Local

I came home from a party to get a bite to eat before going to see Chase’s show tonight, but he called and said the venue was no place for nice moms, which makes me rather nervous, but also gives me the chance to write a quick post and keep the MoFo going.

I did get to the farmers market this morning and shopped and picked up my CSA box.

As you can see, it’s still mostly summer produce – yes, it’s still summer here. And it’s been the driest summer in 80 years, so most of the fall produce just isn’t ready yet. One of the vendors had some dried veggies, so I purchased some dried sweet peppers (in the lower left corner). My mom told me her mom would cook with them and she was a fantastic cook, so I figured this was a good purchase. I guess I should use them like sundried tomatoes? Oh, and those orange and yellow grape tomatoes are wonderful!

I also found the most intriguing chocolate at Whole Foods from a local chocolate maker, Innocent Chocolates. They are actually located about a mile outside of Austin, so I was thrilled when I found some of their vegan, organic chocolate in the freezer section. I couldn’t resist this little package staring back at me.

I haven’t tried it yet, and I don’t think it’s ice cream, but I’m reasonably certain I’m going to love it.

Finally, I must show my test recipe for Cinnamon Walnut Coffee Cake by the amazing baker Ricki of Diet, Desserts, and Dogs.

Every test recipe I’ve made has been superb, so you can all look forward to a fabulous new cookbook in a few months. I’ll see you tomorrow with my ppk Iron Chef apple ginger offering.

That's so cute that Chase warned you not to come...I've played those kinds of shows.

  6. I am so jealous of your veggies. Our nearest farmers market is 40 miles away round trip and we have not been able to join our CSA.

I would be nervous too about Chase. He is a good son, you two take such good care of each other.

    Coffee cake looks goood!

That produce haul looks just gorgeous--how lucky for you that you can still get such great fruits and veg this time of year in North America!! And I'm with Holler on the chocolates--peek inside, please! :)

So glad that you enjoyed the cake, and thanks for the great endorsement! (Hey, maybe you'd like to move from tester to PR person--?!) ;)
